Chippiparai is one of the Indian Originated Hound Dog Breeds like the Royal Rajapalayam.
Today it is only found in the local area near Periyar Lake.

The Chippiparai is also known for being a one-person dog because of its loyalty

The sad news is this Chippiparai Dog is Close to Extinction
because almost 70% of Indian Citizen doesn’t know about our own Indian
Originated Dog breed, but right now there are some responsible breeders who are

Appearance:-
Chippiparai is a Skinny and tall dog even you can see his
Ribs clearly through his skin but don’t judge him by his Body Type because they
are one of the hardiest breeds from the world.
Bred to run like the Wind and Hunt, Chippiparai is a tall
dog with a very lean body and a fantabulous speed to hunt other prey. A long and
narrow face with dropped down long ears, a long tail with a slight curl, and
weight up to 20-30 kilos.
Temperament:-
As we all know all dog breeds can be a little aggressive but
this totally depends on the situation. Same is with this Chippiparai as this is one of the most kind and familiar with humans but only if he was trained
for this when he is young because as it is a one-person Dog Breed that’s why
sometimes he will show some aggression towards strangers.
Chippiparai dog is not good with other small animals since they were bred to hunt. This dog can hunt or even kill any other Small animal of the family if he was not trained to be familiar with them in its puppy age.
History:-
Bred by Royal Families in Chippiparai, Virudhunagar District Tamil Nadu. It is also known for its Speed and loyalty towards their owners.
Chippiparai was kept in Royal Families as a Symbol of
Royalty and Dignity Especially in Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, and Madurai.
Chippiparai was mainly bred for Guarding and for Hunting
because of their fierce behavior towards the other prey Like Mainly Deer, Wild
Boar, and Rabbits.
Life Expectancy:-
The Chippiparai normally lives a maximum life of 14 years
but in some cases, it is reported by the owners that this dog can live around 16 to
17 years.
Common Health Issues:-
Chippiparai is basically a healthy dog but sometimes it can
get some cold because of the cold weather. They can have some general issues
like anesthesia and some food allergies. But in some cases, there is a genetic problem
that can cause a disease like Hip Dysplasia because the thigh bone does not
fit in snugly at the Hip Joint.
Interesting fact:-
As Chippiparais are Sight Hound, and they are too skinny but
don’t go by their looks as they contain all their body weight in their Muscles
and bones.
The most unique thing about them is they have their eyes
positioned in such a way so they have a 270-degree scope of a vision.
