What is Neutering?


Neutering means surgically preventing pets from Reproducing.

  1.        In males, an operation has to be done which is called Castration in which both testicles are removed which takes away the main source of the male hormone testosterone.
  2.      In females it’s called spaying in which both the ovaries and usually the uterus has to remove which means the female is unable to become pregnant.

Neutering can be carried out in very young age or after the first session of breeding but many vets consider to take your pets for neutering after first breeding or wait until your dog maturity specially for large breed dogs.

How to care for my dog after getting Neutered/Spaying?

Now this is the time when your dog needs you so much. your dog just got a cut and got Neutered or Spayed by an another person which will affect in their behavior and make them unable to gain trust easily. Now make sure to keep an eye on your Pet because right now he is at risk of getting Infection for a while and he will be a little tired for some days but apart from this your dog still loves you he just need a special care till recovery.

Here are some important points to take care about:-


  1. As you know what is Neutering so now after having surgery get an E-Collar for your dog. This Collar will help to stop them from licking their own wound or stitches to prevent that particular area from their tongue. They will start feel some kind of itching in their skin when it starts to heal so make sure to put an E-Collar because you can't be there all the time to stop them.
  2. As soon as u get home make sure that your dog have a special and comfortable spot to lay down indoors. Your dog will not be in his senses because of anesthesia which was given to him before surgery. The dog will be a little lazy and want to sleep all the time so give him a space and make sure to keep your kids or other pets away from him because he might not be in a good mood.
  3.  Wait to feed your dog until he regained his composure but make sure to keep a water bowl ready all the time. For his First meal after the following surgery feed him with the half amount of total food he used to eat or your vet will give you a blend food him. But if your dog is not interested for having food even after 48 hours of surgery please contact your vet.

  4. You have to check the Incision site at least twice a day. A little kind of redness and swelling is totally normal for few days but if u see that swelling is getting bigger or abnormal redness around the incision part please make sure to consult your vet again.
  5. Don't allow your dog to play or jump too much because it can be very dangerous for the incision part or can reopen that incision part again till your dog is completely recovered his strength and skin on that Incision part. You can let your dog play only when its totally healed but with a leash on his neck.
  6. You have to postpone your dog's bathing routine for sometime because if water approaches Incision part so it can caught some types of infection which can cause more swelling around the Incision part and make your dog sick.
